The 2022 Toyota GR86 With a Manual Transmission Launches with an MSRP of $27,700

The GR86 sees just a slight bump of $640 over the previous generation

The 2022 Toyota GR86 is now set to launch, and it carries on as one of the most affordable sports cars available today. Like its predecessor, the new 86 carries on with the front-engine, rear-drive formula and is still offered with a six-speed manual transmission. Despite the fact that it sees a decent improvement in power output over the last-gen model, its entry level price doesn’t take a big hit. To be more specific, the new 2022 GR86 starts out at $27,700, which represents an increase of just $640 over the outgoing model.

Naturally, the starting price doesn’t include the processing and delivery fee of $1,025, but that also carries over from the last-gen model. All in all, a base model 2022 86 will set out back $28,725. That gets you a 2.4-liter, naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine, a six-speed manual transmission, and a 60-mph sprint time that’s rumored to be below six seconds (official figures are 6.1-6.6 seconds, depending on the transmission.)

If you want to opt for the automatic transmission, you’ll have to pay Toyota an extra $1,500 while moving up to the GR86 Premium trim will increase your wager by another $26,000. Much like the entry level model, the Premium with an automatic also comes at a premium. Now feels like a good time to remind you that the GR86 is actually slower with the automatic, although the automatic does come with paddle shifters. If the last-gen model is an representation of what you can expect, you most definitely want the manual transmission, but the automatic isn’t all bad if you don’t want to row your own.
